HIGH PREVALENCE OF HYPERTENSION

Blood pressure is defined as the force of blood as it is pumped by the heart pushing the walls of blood vessels of the circulatory system whereas the higher the pressure, the harder the heart has to pump (Department of health, 2017).  According to JNC 8, patients with hypertension are classified into prehypertension with a systolic BP of 120-139 or diastolic BP of 80-89 mmHg, stage 1 hypertension with systolic BP of 140-159 or diastolic BP of 90-99 mmHg, and stage 2 hypertension with systolic BP of >160 or diastolic BP of >100. Published on the occasion of World Health Day 2013, the Global brief on hypertension elucidates in the early 21st century the reason why hypertension is a global public health issue.
